Parents – Uniform

Uniformity gives us identity as a school, reduces instances of bullying and has a significant impact on school behaviour. We strive for all students to take a pride in their appearance and prepare themselves for the transition to secondary school where strict uniform requirements also apply.

The standard of uniform at Holme Valley is high and in our opinion this plays a large part in helping to maintain other standards. The school is very appreciative of the support which parents have always given us in this area. Some children will try to persuade parents that certain items of clothing are suitable for school, when in fact they are not. Parents are requested, therefore, to comply with the following regulations.

Everyday items

Skirts/pinafore dresses: Black or grey in colour. Skirts must always be plain and no more than 5cm above the knee. These must NOT be lycra or jersey material or any other fashion item.

Trousers: Trousers should be black or grey and plain. These must not be Lycra or jersey material and must be straight leg or boot cut.

Summer wear: In the summer, girls can wear a royal blue gingham dress or knee length grey shorts with white ankle or knee length socks. Boys can also wear grey knee length shorts with grey or black ankle socks.

Shirt/Blouse/Polo shirt: Sky blue, white, or royal blue in colour.

Sweatshirt/Cardigan: Round neck sweatshirt or cardigan in royal blue bearing the school logo.

Socks and tights: Socks for boys and ankle socks, knee length socks or tights for girls should be plain white, grey or black. Girls should not wear socks above the knee

Clothing for PE: Indoor; Girls- Plain black leotard (no markings), Boys- Plain black PE shorts (no markings).
Outdoor; Black shorts and white t-shirt, Trainers/black plimsolls – not shoes worn during the school day, Tracksuit – advisable in cold weather

Sweatshirts, cardigans, polo shirts, fleeces and school coats with the school logo printed on them are available to purchase at school or at SHAS. Uniform can also be purchased online at www.wovina.com or www.shahsuniform.co.uk

Extreme styles or colours of hair are not allowed, this includes shaved patterns and lines.  In all matters the Headteacher makes the final decision. Long hair will need to be tied up for PE.

Jewellery should not be worn in school. If ears are pierced, only one set of plain gold or silver studs is acceptable.

If your child has pierced ears they must remove their earrings for PE as they are dangerous. Parents must ensure that children can take out their earrings or they should not wear them to school.  If your child wishes to have their ears pierced we recommend that they have this done during the 6 weeks summer school holidays, so that on their return they are able to remove them for PE.  The children will be responsible for their safe keeping.

Appropriate School Shoes will:

  • Be made of leather or leather effect(no suede or canvas material are permitted)
  • Have a rigid sole or heel (no soft soles or high heels)
  • Have no sporting logo or coloured stripes on them
  • Not to be tennis shoes, plimsolls or trainers
  • Be all black
  • Extend no higher than the ankle (no boots)

In all matters, the Headteacher will make the final decision
