At Holme Valley, we believe that a high-quality music curriculum provides children with a lifelong form of expression and communication with others through which they gain a sense of their social and individual identity. By participating in Music, children learn ways of experiencing, presenting and understanding emotions, values and cultural beliefs. We aim to equip them with a lifelong musical appreciation.

Our school delivers an ambitious, broad and balanced music curriculum, that has been designed so that pupils acquire knowledge and understanding across the key areas of singing, notation, performance, composition and theory. Children will understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated. Additionally, they will be taught musical vocabulary and how to read and write notation. We provide opportunities for learning an instrument, singing in a choir and developing pupil’s musical interests through extra-curricular activities.

We aim to develop confident musicians who understand the value and importance of music in the wider community. Children are able to use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts. We provide every child with the opportunity to develop their musical potential and we aim to nurture and encourage a lifelong love of music.

If you require any further information about our music curriculum, please contact the school office and our subject leader will get back to you.
