Art
At Holme Valley, we aim for all pupils to access high quality Art lessons that enable them to develop and explore their creativity so that they can reach and exceed their potential.
Our Art lessons enable pupils to build their confidence, providing them with an opportunity to express themselves, take risks in a supportive environment and create a final product of which they can be proud. Artwork is inspired by topics in the wider curriculum.
Our Art curriculum provides pupils with opportunities to develop their skills using a range of media and materials. Pupils learn the skills of drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, 3D work and digital art and are given the opportunity to explore and evaluate different creative ideas. They will be introduced to a range of works and develop knowledge of the styles and vocabulary used by famous artists and craft makers.
Every year, there is a clear progression of skills, which build on prior learning – such as the use of tools and techniques with increasing mastery. Opportunities are also provided for pupils to evaluate their artwork, thinking about how they can make changes and keep improving, with evidence of age-related verbal and written reflection.
Art is a significant part of Holme Valley Primary and has a strong presence throughout the school – our vibrant displays celebrate and promote the significant learning that takes place and also motivates and inspires others.
If you require any further information about our art curriculum, please contact the school office and our subject leader will get back to you.
